This is the same service dial-up Internet service we have provided since 1996. First opened in Orange County, Virginia with a local BBS (bulletin board service) with two phone lines and 12 customers. It grew to a peak of 2,200+ customers operating on multiple T-1 circuits with over 500 incoming phone lines in 2003. Since then, the business has gradually shrunk because of more wide-spread use of broadband. We will continue to service our customers as we always have in the past.
Over the years we have been in the web site business, then out of it. We re-entered the web business in 2007 and once again are doing design, creation and hosting of both personal and business web sites.
For GemLink, Digital Services is a pretty broad category of business, encompassing a wide variety of offerings to both personal and business customers.
At the heart of each different service offered is “digitising” and we define that to be taking various data sources and translating them into computerised form that is stored on hard-drives, CDs, DVDs, Flash Memory Cards and such.
A most notable example is using a digital camera to process old family photos into a digital form, moving them to a computer and handing the customer a CD with their family photos preserved for at least 100 years (anticipated life of a CD).
High-definition video recorded and presented on CD or DVD is a major part of digital services, as is professional quality audio interviews, digitised to be included on web sites, CDs & DVDs.
Historical Research was added to GemLink service offerings in mid-2007, but little effort was made to attract a following, with the primary focus being the development of technique and skills.
Today GemLink proudly offers new concepts in providing the ordinary family with a broad array of investigative techniques used for researching family history.
This is not the typical “Genealogical Research” requiring retainers, large invoices and often minimal results. This is a guaranteed service with reasonable pricing based on a “co-op” type system of effort and research.
With the various aspects of GemLink’s business involvement, there is a considerable amount of travel involved in several states. A family history investigation and research for you, is easily included in the travel expenses shared by other activities, thereby greatly reducing the cost of the family research.
