If you are using Windows-XP, Windows Vista or the new Windows 7 ... these instructions apply to your computer.
For any operating system, the basic intent of these guidelines is to help you create a way to easily find your update files, modify them, and then move them up to the server.
Which ever operating system you have on your computer, you have some version of a start menu that looks similar to the one on the left.
Because your computer “automatically” puts many things in the Documents folder, most people are accustomed to going there first to look for “documents”.
We are going to be updating documents used on your web-site, so creating a special folder under Documents will make it easy to find your special upload documents.

_Upload is a good name for this folder; if you preface the name with an underscore it will be even easier to locate. It will “float” to the top of other sub-folders within documents.
What we want is a sub-folder under Documents that has a label “_Upload”.
Create it now.
This folder will be used to hold all your web page update files for your web-site.
A great company named Sun Microsystems supports a free software application named Open Office Suite. It is a direct competitor for Microsoft’s expensive Microsoft Office Suite, but is free. It is “open source” software and is updated frequently making it easy to stay current with many office applications (text documents, speadsheets, presentation displays, & etc.) and always for free.
Go now to this web site, download and install the Open Office products: http://www.openoffice.org/
Please use the Text Editor on startup and note there is an extensive Help system included.
Next you will need to download some FTP software so you can move files to/from the server. http://AnyClient.com
After you have downloaded and installed these two software products, you are ready to update your web site.
